National Reconciliation Week 2023

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2023 was Reconciliation Tasmania’s biggest NRW yet. Our sixth one with numbers exceeding 1,700 featuring upgraded venues and some impressive local speakers alongside journalist and reconciliation champion Ray Martin.

A Referendum is Coming

RT has been working closely with other members of the Australian Reconciliation Network since last October. Together we are promoting wider understanding across our communities of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the proposed First Nations Voice to Parliament. Our goal is to reach as many Tasmanians as possible ahead of the Voice Referendum, planned for October this year.

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is For Our Elders. NAIDOC Week is a time for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to celebrate. It’s a time for all Tasmanians to come together and applaud their local Aboriginal communities.

Reconciliation Collective Truth-Listening

On a beautiful autumn day in March members of RT’s Reconciliation Collective were invited to attend a Truth-Listening Day on Glover Country near Evandale. This was RT’s first ever on-country day at the historical property.

Youth Speak Out

The Youth Speak Out (YSO) initiative is aimed at Year 5 – Year 12 students providing a space to express their ideas around Reconciliation. These can be represented through art or a written piece. Pieces are as varied as poems, speeches, short documentaries, posters, multi-media and more.

In Partnership with the University of Tasmania Come Walk With Us, is our innovative, thought provoking and hands on workshop for all sectors and communities. It shows the impact of past events on current policies and attitudes in Tasmania and the effects on Tasmanian Aboriginal people and their communities.

Membership Restructure & New Website

After much planning in 2022, RT’s Board has approved the proposal to restructure our membership system. Currently free to join, RT has around 700 registered members, which we wish to grow, along with adding more value and benefits for members.
