Ongoing | Online | Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional support is received, or the crisis resolves. This strengths-based course has been developed and reviewed in consultation with First Nations people. The course ensures participants are grounded in social and emotional well-being from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective, equipping them with the skills to provide mental health first aid in a culturally safe and informed way. |
Ongoing | Online | Prevalence of Racism in Tasmania – community consultation This survey explores: * the experience of racism by individuals (whether personally experienced, observed or not experienced at all) and * the perceptions and beliefs held about cultures and ethnicities other than one’s own. The anonymous findings will be shared with the Tasmanian Government and broader community to raise awareness, inform policy decisions and promote greater social cohesion. |
4 May | Wilmot | Weindorfer Day Weindorfer Day commemorates the legacy of Gustav & Kate Weindorfer and their contributions to the conservation of Tasmania’s natural heritage, particularly the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. The event will feature Indigenous foods and ceremony. |
5 May | Exeter | Wayapa Wuurrk Wayapa Wuurrk is a unique and reconnective experience that blends Earth, Mind, Body and Spirit to promote deep healing and balance. |
8 May | Launceston | The Land Bridge – film screening The Land Bridge tells the story of Bass Strait when it was a vast grassy plain, part of an ice age landscape people walked across and lived on, between Lutruwita/Tasmania and mainland Australia, and features contributions from Palawa and Pakana knowledge holders and other First Nations cultural custodians of the former land bridge area, plus Australia-wide experts in marine environments, geomorphology, palaeoecology, archaeology, wildlife conservation and history. |
7-8 May | Meanjin / Brisbane | First Nations Women in Leadership Summit Gather amongst a community of First Nations women and be inspired by the shared stories of cultural knowledge, wisdom, and strength. |
22 May | Online | Deadly Writing Festival The Deadly Writing Festival connects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytellers directly with your classroom via live Zoom workshops. Designed to inspire creativity and cultural understanding, this national storytelling event aligns perfectly with NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week. |
