Rising Tasmanian star Kartanya Maynard has made her Netflix debut, joining the cast for the second season of the Australian teen drama Heartbreak High.
Maynard takes on the role of Zoe Clarke, an ‘opinionated celibacy advocate’, who threatens to bring down a school group alongside her friends.
The young Tasmanian is a proud Trawlwoolway woman who originally had her sights set on singing, until she was faced with a bad case of tinnitus that forced her to switch to acting.
She was thrown into the spotlight in June 2023 after playing the role of Miranda Hoskins in Deadloch, an Amazon Prime mystery show set in a fictional Tasmanian town.
Maynard has since graced the screens of ABC TV, appearing in Gold Digger and The Messenger and says now starring in Heartbreak High has been a ‘dream come true’.
“I put in a self-tape [audition] just like anyone else who auditioned for the role and they were just like ‘Hey, we’d love to call you back’ and I was like, alright,” she said.
“It was one of those moments where you were like ‘Oh my god, this is amazing, yes’, because I was a fan. And then I was like, gotta do it now.”
Season 2 of Heartbreak High is now streaming on Netflix.
