OngoingOnlineAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional support is received, or the crisis resolves. This strengths-based course has been developed and reviewed in consultation with First Nations people. The course ensures participants are grounded in social and emotional well-being from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective, equipping them with the skills to provide mental health first aid in a culturally safe and informed way.
OngoingOnlinePrevalence of Racism in Tasmania – community consultation
This survey explores:
* the experience of racism by individuals (whether personally experienced, observed or not experienced at all) and
* the perceptions and beliefs held about cultures and ethnicities other than one’s own.
The anonymous findings will be shared with the Tasmanian Government and broader community to raise awareness, inform policy decisions and promote greater social cohesion.

18 OctoberWeaving Workshop Saturday 18 October – Nearipah Dreaming – Huon Valley Hub
During this relaxed and creative workshop, participants will:
·        Learn both traditional and contemporary weaving techniques.
·        Deepen cultural knowledge and understanding.
·        Share stories and connect with others while weaving in community.
·        Create a unique and beautiful woven basket to take home.
This workshop offers more than weaving – it is an opportunity to step into Indigenous culture, strengthen connections with community, and walk together in respect and understanding of Country.
1 OctoberKingstonUninnocent Landscapes by Ian Terry
The Kingborough Reconciliation Action Group invites you to a presentation followed by discussion and a cuppa.
Ian Terry followed the route of George Augustus Robinson’s 1831 Big River Mission. With 13 Aboriginal envoys, Robinson spent 11 weeks walking around central Tasmania before meeting 26 survivors of the Lairmerrener and Paredarerme people west of Lake Echo. Ian photographed the landscapes the Big River Mission passed through as an act of documentation of change and truth-telling about colonisation and dispossession.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. See the NAIDOC Week website for more information and free resources.

“This year’s NAIDOC Week marks 50 years of the week-long celebrations, and the theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy, celebrates achievements of the past and the bright future ahead.
Working with Sawtooth Artist-Run Initiative, Denise Robinson and Bianca Templar have invited Tasmanian Aboriginal families to celebrate this milestone by taking a family portrait and sharing a word that sums up who they are and their aspirations for the next generations.”

Join the Kingborough Reconciliation Action Group for a film followed by discussion.
THE LAND BRIDGE – Bass Strait was once a vast grassy plain where people animals and plants lived. Cultural knowledge and song lines connected to this are held within First Nations communities. Through the perspectives of marine scientists, wildlife biologists, rangers and cultural custodians, the film explores this plain and how First Peoples remain culturally connected to those long past times.
