The Chris Crerar Reconciliation Scholarship

A UTAS scholarship has been set up in memory of Chris Crerar, a respected and committed member of the Reconciliation Tasmania team.

Reconciliation Tasmania is proud to announce a new scholarship created in the memory of our colleague Chris Crerar.

The Chris Crerar Reconciliation Scholarship is available to a Tasmanian Aboriginal student commencing a Bachelor degree for the first time, in any discipline, at the University of Tasmania from Semester 1, 2025.

The $5000 a year scholarship ($25,000 over five years) aims to provide financial support for the duration of the undergraduate degree, and to offer the successful applicant opportunities to connect with Reconciliation Tasmania.

Chris was a cherished staff member at Reconciliation Tasmania for a number of years. This scholarship, sponsored by Reconciliation Tasmania and funded via donations, recognises his contribution to the Tasmanian community throughout his life.

Watch a short video tribute to Chris here.

In particular, Chris had a commitment to pursuing social justice and equity for Tasmania’s First Peoples. He used his media skills to create greater awareness, understanding and action toward Closing the Gap and self-determination. This scholarship reflects these aspirations.

Applications for the scholarship will open from 31 August 2024 and close on 31 October 2024.

Potential applicants are encouraged to visit the UTAS website from August 31 to view the full scholarship details and apply online.

Run, Walk or Donate for the Chris Crerar Reconciliation Scholarship

Support or join the Running for Reconciliation team as we aim to increase awareness and raise funds for the Chris Crerar Reconciliation Scholarship by running and walking the Point to Pinnacle – the world’s toughest road half marathon in November.

In memory of our colleague Chris, Reconciliation Tasmania is sponsoring a $25,000, five-year University of Tasmania scholarship for a Tasmanian Aboriginal student. You can support by joining the Running for Reconciliation team – registrations open tomorrow. Register HERE.

Whether you are a committed runner or walker or just keen for a new challenge, why not take on the mental and physical challenge of this event and raise funds for the Chris Crerar Reconciliation Scholarship at the same time.

For those who would like to, you can join the Running for Reconciliation team WhatsApp group where you will be offered training tips, advice and a program by recognised running coach and RT Board member Lee Wilson, to share your training experience and keep you motivated.

You can also run/walk the event independently (or with friends) and when registering, choose the RT’s Chris Crerar Reconciliation Scholarship as your nominated charity.

If running or walking up a mountain isn’t for you, but you want to support the scholarship, you can make a donation to the team, or direct to the UTAS scholarship platform HERE.
