Voice to Parliament community conversation

A conversation with the community about the 2023 referendum for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament to be enshrined in the Constitution.

The Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Linda Burney MP is be joined by local Indigenous leader, Nick Cameron, the Federal Member for Bass, Bridget Archer MP, and former Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein for a discussion on The Voice referendum, moderated by Professor Rufus Black, University of Tasmania Vice-Chancellor.

July 10 there was a packed house at the UTAS Launceston campus as Bridget Archer MP joined former Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein, Minister Linda Burney, and local Indigenous leader Nick Cameron in a panel discussion about the Voice to Parliament. UTAS Vice-Chancellor Rufus Clack and Elder Aunty Patsy also featured.

In 2017, the Uluru Statement from the Heart set out an agenda for Voice, Treaty and Truth agreed by national Indigenous leaders. In 2023, Australians will have the chance to vote to recognise the First People’s rights, history and ongoing relationship with the land, and to ensure they are consulted on laws and policies that affect them. Conversations are now being held with communities across Australia to learn more about this historic opportunity.
