RECONCILIATION IN EDUCATION

Learning and empowering our next generation to be voices for change is at the heart of our approach to reconciliation in education

We know that currently most non-Aboriginal students are yet to learn the full history and culture of their home in Lutruwita/Tasmania, and that schools have not always been safe or inclusive spaces for many Aboriginal children. We believe that school-based learning has the power to reshape the future, with benefits that extend beyond students and school communities into the wider Tasmanian community, creating lasting, sustainable change for generations to come.

From 2026, Reconciliation Tasmania will contribute all profits from the National Reconciliation Week breakfasts program to furthering reconciliation in education.

Reconciliation Australia’s Narragunnawali program is one way we support schools and early learning services in Tasmania to take action towards reconciliation, both within their schools and the community. If your school or early learning centre would like to find out about Narragunnawali, please get in touch.

We are currently also working to build on this with the development of a new statewide model for reconciliation in education that will deliver transformational outcomes for all our young people. We look forward to sharing information about this new program soon.

Reconciliation Tasmania is committed to driving and facilitating change in education, working in partnership with Aboriginal communities, supporting educators, and strengthening understanding, respect and belonging in schools.

We invite your school to be part of the progress!
