In September we launched our Tasmanian Aboriginal Knowledge Holders School Grants Program, an exciting new initiative offering grants of $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000 to Tasmanian schools to support meaningful Aboriginal-led learning, relationships and initiatives throughout the 2027 school year.
We have been working on this important program for some time, and are proud to have the support of the Tasmanian Community Fund in bringing it to life.
We know that fear of getting it wrong, limited resources and a lack of established connections with Aboriginal people can be significant barriers for schools. This program aims to help overcome those challenges, creating opportunities for schools to build genuine relationships with Tasmanian Aboriginal educators and Knowledge Holders, deepen cultural understanding and embed Aboriginal perspectives in learning.
Successful schools will also have the opportunity to participate in a Tasmanian Aboriginal-led cultural safety workshop, further strengthening their knowledge and confidence.
We’re excited about the opportunities this program will create for schools to work direct with Tasmanian Aboriginal people and businesses, because when programs are culturally grounded and community-led, the next generation have the potential to grow up in schools where truth, respect and cultural safety are not abstract concepts, but lived reality.
Applications close on 30 October. If you know a school that could benefit, please help us spread the word!
