Past National Reconciliation Week themes and events
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Reconciliation Tasmania’s NRW Breakfasts are our biggest events each year. Previous keynote speakers have included:
- Shane Howard – acclaimed musician and long-time ally of Aboriginal peoples
- Ged Watts – Palawa musician and advocate
- Ray Martin – acclaimed journalist, entertainment personality and Kamilaroi descendant
- Dave mangenner Gough – Trawlwoolway artist and curator
- Tyenna Hogan – Palawa law student
- Thomas Mayo – author, activist, signatory and advocate for the Uluru Statement from the Heart, Kaurareg Aboriginal and Kalkalgal, Erubamle Torres Strait Islander man
- Professor Marcia Langton AO – descendant of the Yiman and Bidjara nations of Queensland, anthropologist, geographer, activist and academic, and Foundation Chair of Australian Indigenous Studies at the University of Melbourne, where she is Associate Provost.
- Professor Peter Yu AM – Yawuru leader
- Mick Gooda – former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner
